More about the location:

The Herb Garden is a detached period cottage set in a beautiful location on the side of a sea loch and now provides warm, comfortable accommodation for six to eight people.
From the doorstep, forest and open hill walks abound, as well as cycling through some of the best and unspoilt scenery in Europe. The stunning scenery is the first thing you will notice when you arrive but the area is also rich in history and there are many interesting places to visit. Inveraray Castle and the famous Jail are only 15 miles away; Loch Fyne Oyster restaurant is within 20 minutes drive of Inveraray. There are local museums, crofts, and National Trust gardens just a few minutes from the cottage. You are very likely to spot sea otters and other magnificent wildlife, including red and roe deer, highland cattle and copious bird life in and around the loch. From the cottage door you can walk or cycle for miles along forestry tracks and old drove roads, and the area is ideal for this - bicycles can safely be stored in the shed. The whole area is a paradise for hillwalkers and cyclists. It is also steeped in history, with many stone circles to be found fairly close by. There is good trout fishing (1 mile) and fishing for salmon, monster brown trout and pike on Loch Awe. The famous Macrihanish golf links make a good day out with several local golf courses within 20 miles. Horse riding and watersports within 8 miles. Many of the 'Glorious Gardens of Agyll' are within 60 minutes drive.
Inveraray Castle, Crarae Gardens (National Trust for Scotland), Dalhenna Riding Stables and Outdoor Adventure Centre, golf courses, The Seal and Marine Life Sanctuary, the Hollow Mountain Power Station, Bonawe Furnace, Kilmartin Museum and Standing Stones are but a taste of the many varied activities you can choose from within an hour's drive of The Herb Garden. The small village of Kilmelford, between Inveraray and Oban, with its church, old coaching inn and shop-cum-Post Office offers a lovely day out.  Steep, narrow but well-tarmaced road leads the four miles to Lochavich, with Loch Avich itself spread before you. It's a remote but accessible glen between the sea and the vast expanse of Loch Awe, and offers absolute peace and quiet with stunning views of mountain, moor, forest and loch. The Crinan Canals, a wealth of pre-history, especially Kilmartin Glen, Knapdale, Gigha and Kintyre are all within easy reach. There is excellent bird-watching, especially raptors such as golden & sea eagles and osprey. Sea loch fishing is available less than 100 yards away and an Adventure Centre is less than 15miles away. Within half an hour is the Crinan Canal, Lochgilphead, Inveraray, Loch Awe, the stunning Rest and be Thankful and the Cruachan Dam. An hour away is Oban, “Gateway to the Isles”, so you can take day trips by ferry to Mull, Iona, Coll, Tiree, etc. if you want to explore these fascinating Western Isles and an hour and a half's travelling would take you to Stirling, Glasgow, Perth or Pitlochry with its famous Festival Theatre. No light pollution for star watching and many castles to explore, from land and sea. You can enjoy cruises to the islands, Loch Etive, Loch Awe and for the adventurous, to the Great Corryvrechan Whirlpool. Or just relax and do nothing!

There are some great places to eat out in this part of Argyll, so if you want a break from cooking on your self-catering holiday then the renowned pub, The George, Inveraray, is a must, as is the famous Loch Fyne Oyster Bar - there are lots of other excellent restaurants, cafes and pubs in the area serving wonderful local produce.
